Location: Daniel Island

One of the Charleston area's newest sections, Daniel Island is a planned "lifestyle community" of more than 4,000 acres. It is connected to the other areas of Charleston by two large bridges on Interstate 526 (the partial loop around Charleston). One bridge connects to Mount Pleasant and the other to North Charleston. It's about 20 minutes to downtown Charleston and the beaches on the Isle of Palms by car. Daniel Island is governed by the City of Charleston. Like Park West and Dunes West in Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island is broken into smaller neighborhoods, each with its own character and feel.
Because the island has been almost entirely developed over the past decade, everything feels new. Care was taken to protect the avenues of old Live Oak trees and other natural areas. The foliage in other areas is starting to fill in nicely. The development has won areas for smart growth development. There is a clear priority on community "green space" with neighborhood parks and bike trails
There are numerous sporting and recreational opportunities on Daniel Island, including the Charleston Battery Soccer team, the Family Circle Tennis Center and top-ranked golf courses by Tom Fazio and Rees Jones. There is also a new Charleston County public library and many parks and outdoor recreational areas. A boat ramp and full service marina are planned.
The island is home to very well regarded public and private schools, including the Daniel Island School and Bishop England High School.
Daniel Island is home to publicly-traded Blackbaud. Benefit Focus, a software firm, is another major corporate tenant. The commercial district features many boutique shops, restaurants and medical offices.
There are more than 2,500 homes on Daniel Island. They range from condos in the low $200,000's to waterfront estates worth several million dollars.
You can live on a golf course or the marsh and ride your bike from park to park.
